Audi A1 quattro revealed; limited to 333 units

Audi A1 Quattro

Audi has just unveiled an all-wheel-drive version of its A1 compact model. Limited to only 333 units, the new A1 Quattro has a two-liter, turbocharged engine that produces 188 kW (256 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque.

The little model is capable to hit 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 245 km/h (152.24 mph).

The heady reserves are channeled through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Haldex - style four-wheel drive system that Audi has engineered for the A1’s PQ25 platform.



Looking very much like the Clubsport concept from earlier this year, A1 Quattro comes with 18-inch turbine design wheels, huge 12.28-inch disc brakes, tinted rear windows, and, of course, a full aerodynamic treatment.

The front bumper is aggressive, with huge air scoops, while trim elements in gloss black and red accent the grille and headlights. As expected, quattro badges are everywhere.

The hot hatch also gets an electrohydraulic power steering with a direct 14.8:1 steering ratio, while the ESP stabilization program includes a sport mode and can be switched off entirely.

For the time being the A1 Quattro seems to be just a small limited-run model, produced in left-hand drive only to see if people will be willing to buy an RS1 model should it eventually go into full-scale production.

The Audi A1 quattro will be available from the second half of 2012 and will be supplied to customers with a full range of equipment. It includes many features taken directly from the luxury class, including xenon plus headlights, high-beam assistant, adaptive brake lights, LED interior lighting package, light and rain sensor, automatically dimming interior mirror, rear parking system, automatic air conditioning, alarm system, storage package, convenience key and cruise control.
