Maserati Kubang will debut at Detroit Auto Show

Maserati Kubang
Maserati, the luxury automaker will present its Kubang SUV at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in January.

The Italian luxury carmaker has originally unveiled the Maserati SUV concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

So far, Maserati still hasn’t confirm when and if the Kubang will enter production but it is almost inevitable as the brand is looking to diversify its product range, increase sales and its presence in the sport luxury market.

According to alvolante.it, the Maserati SUV previewed at the Frankfurt Motor Show will be named the Cinqueporte and the automaker’s officials did say recently that Kubang has never been announced as the vehicle’s new name.

According to Maserati, the upcoming Kubang SUV or Cinqueporte is based on a Jeep Grand Cherokee platform and has an engine lineup designed in Modena by Paolo Martinelli - head of the Maserati powertrain department and for nearly 30 years at Ferrari.

While a Chrysler-based Maserati sedan and SUV may not sound very appealing, Marchionne assures that the important bits will be thoroughly Italian with Ferrari/Maserati-based engines, suspensions, styling, and cabin furniture.

The price for this new Maser will be just over $100,000 putting in the ball park of higher end Porsche Cayenne’s and the likes of the BMW X5 M and Mercedes ML AMG luxury sport SUV’s.
