Porsche Will Continue Development of 911 GT3 R Hybrid Racer

So far, Porsche has shown two version of their hybrid racer, each more impressive than the last. The first came onto the scene in 2010 at the Geneva Motor Show, and it was quickly followed up with the ‘Version 2.0’ GT3 R Hybrid, which had more power and was better suited to racing conditions.

It’s not yet clear whether they will eventually make a hybrid 911 road car, or if the are going the GT3 R Hybrid next year. But they are going to use it as a sort of platform to test different parts for the Le Mans prototype, marking Porsche’s return to the endurance event in 2014.

“There is no way around the hybrid technology in motorsport. With the 911 GT3 R Hybrid project we have shown you how we can test important future technologies on the race track and pave the way for motorsport success in the future. We will continue to determinedly blaze this trail and further develop the hybrid technology,” said Wolfgang Hatz, board member for Research and Development.
