Almost official: Bentley SUV is coming in 2014

Volkswagen AG’s super-luxury Bentley brand plans to build a high-end sports utility vehicle that would cost more than $140,000 as well as new versions of its Continental model to meet strong demand for ultra-luxury cars.
“If we bring this [SUV] to the market it will be positioned significantly above the vehicles that are currently available in this segment,” Bentley brand chief Wolfgang Duerheimer said Tuesday.
The British luxury automaker increased its sales to 7,003 vehicles, Crewe, England- based Bentley said today in an e-mailed statement.

Sales in China amounted to 1,839 cars, making the country Bentley’s second-biggest market behind the U.S., it said.
Bentley’s chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Durheimer said: “It has been a tremendously good year for Bentley. The dramatic sales growth reflects a global strength to the brand and a recognition of the quality, craftsmanship and engineering excellence of our cars.
At this month’s 2012 Detroit Auto Show the automaker from Crewe, England will unveil a new V-8 option for the Continental range and beyond that we could see even more daring models.
