BMW ActiveHybrid 5 starts at $61,845

BMW ActiveHybrid 5

The German based automaker BMW has recently announced, during the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, that the ActiveHybrid 5 will start at 61,845 USD.

BMW has used the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit to announce the starting price of the new ActiveHybrid 5, which has been set at 61,845 USD, which is just $8,720 over the 535i sedan. According to the car manufacturer, the 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 will go on sale in late spring and its price also includes the $895 destination charge. The German model is more expensive than one of its main competitors, the 2012 Infiniti M35h, which is expected to go on sale in spring too, for about 55,000 USD.

As a reminder, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is powered by a 3.0 liter TwinPower turbo inline six-cylinder engine, mated to an electric drive system, a lithium-ion battery pack powering the electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission, for a total output of 335 horsepower. BMW says that the ActiveHybrid 5 can be driven in the electric mode alone for up to 2.5 miles at speeds below 37 mph.

Besides talking about the BMW ActiveHybrid 5, the German based automaker has also launched the new generation of the 3-Series at the same North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The US-spec F30 will be sold in four versions, the 320d, the 320d EfficientDynamics, the 328i and the 335i.
