Avanti Sports Car by DC Design |
Indian design studio DC Design is best known for creating concepts and one-off luxury cars, but the firm is branching out to build a low-volume sports car for the Indian market.
Revealed at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the DC Design Avanti seems to carry styling influences from the Ferrari 458 Italia and even the most recent Lotus concepts. While its shape may be derivative of other cars, the new Avanti carries its own sense of style.
While a V-6 variant with an expected 400 horsepower will come later, initial DC Design Avantis will be powered by a 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost engine, which is expected to produce around 265 horsepower. Both engines will be mated to a six-speed, dual clutch transmission.
Business Standard Motoring says that the 2.0-liter engine is good enough to propel the 3,432 pound Avanti from 0-60 mph in under seven seconds, so expect the V-6 to be significantly faster than that.
The Avanti will be assembled at DC Design’s plant in Pune, India, and most components (including the EcoBoost engines) will be imported. DC will make the aluminum body and interior components in house, and initial plans call for production of 300 cars in 2013 with as many as 2,000 units annually in following years.
Pricing will start at Rs 30 lakh, which is roughly $56,000, and DC Design is in the process of setting up showrooms across India. While the company expects to take orders at the Delhi Auto Expo taking place this week, we can’t help but wonder if the current owners of the Avanti name and trademark may object to the chosen moniker.
